As one of the founding members of the Circle Art Group and one of the first generation sculptors from Hong Kong, Cheung possesses a strong personal style with a unique vocabulary, employing the framework of Modern Western art to contain traditional Chinese aesthetics and ancient cultural elements. Entitled Blank, this is Ford’s first solo exhibition in Greater China. As the gallery’s GDM Project in 2019, this program is designed to support emerging artists to exhibit their works beyond their locale. At the crux of this exhibition is the premiere of a series of new paintings created specifically for this occasion, which collectively survey Ford’s preoccupation with the effect of global population growth on nature and habitats as well as an investigation into the infinite possibilities of contemporary realism. One Art Group - The Pioneers of Ink Art
10 Jan - 11 Mar 2019 Galerie du Monde is pleased to present a group exhibition from January 11 to March 9, 2019, featuring works by pioneers of the most important ink art movement in Hong Kong’s art history, One Art Group. Established in 1971, this art collective was regarded as a milestone movement in the history of ink art, based on the innovative ideas of Hong Kong’s famous ink artist Lui Shou-Kwan (1919-1975). As the longest running contemporary art gallery in Hong Kong founded in 1974, Galerie du Monde has witnessed the discoveries and flourishing of Hong Kong’s local art groups, including One Art Group. In time to celebrate the gallery’s 45th anniversary in 2019, Galerie du Monde will honor the development of paintings spawned from this movement by presenting iconic works of 11 Chinese artists of unique styles, including: Chou Lu Yun, Irene (1924-2011), Chui Tze-Hung (b. 1936), Kan Tai-Keung (b. 1942), Koo Mei, Carrie (b. 1929), Leung But-Yin (b. 1940), Ng Yiu-Chung (1935-1987), Poon Chun-Wah (b.1936), Wong King-Seng (b. 1928), Yeung Yick-Chung (1921-1981), Leung Kui-Ting (b.1945) and Wucius Wong (b. 1936). Yao Hai - Solo Exhibition
29 Nov 2018 - 7 Jan 2019 Galerie du Monde is pleased to present a solo exhibition of multimedia artist Yao Hai (b.1980, Gansu, China), from 30 November 2018 to 7 January 2019. The exhibition explores the self, as an energy unit, and its underlying relationship with selected media. Yao uses different materials such as paper, metal, wood, tape, palm fibers and acrylic sheets, allowing them to interact and communicate. This process is an exploration of the outside world, aiming to understand the single material (the self) from different dimensions. Elaborating on the concept of “deconstruction and reconstruction”, the exploration extends to the artist’s “After Being Opened”, “Reconstruction” and “Pollen” series. Fong Chung-Ray - Enlightenment
25 Oct - 27 Nov 2018 Galerie du Monde is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Fong Chung-Ray, the influential contemporary artist, who as a member of The Fifth Moon Group, a group of contemporary Chinese artists, were at the forefront of the modern art movement in Taiwan in the 1960s. Titled Enlightenment: 1998-2018, this exhibition showcases 15 works from the last two decades, with some pieces that have never been seen in the public before. This solo exhibition comes after five collaborations between the artist and Galerie du Monde, including the retrospective of Fong Chung-Ray’s work in 2015, three Fifth Moon Group exhibitions at the gallery in 2016 and 2017, and at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2017. Stella Zhang - Translution
20 Sep - 22 Oct 2018 Galerie du Monde is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new conceptual works by Stella Zhang. The title Translution is a portmanteau of ‘transparent evolution’, which allows for the revealing or obscuring of contents held within at will. The exhibition showcases a visual reconciliation of the artist’s flickering memories and thoughts, deliberately and selectively making transparent those glimpses as they dart in and out of her peripheral vision. It is also a representation of Zhang’s progressive journey as an artist. Translution comes as the fourth collaboration between Zhang and Galerie du Monde, with a solo exhibition hosted by the gallery in 2015, presentation of the artist’s works by the gallery at Art Central in 2015 and in the Insights sector of Art Basel Hong Kong in 2016. Roland Biermann - Transformations
7 Oct - 10 Nov 2016 Galerie du Monde is pleased to present a solo exhibition of work by London-based, German photographer G. Roland Biermann. Comprising monochrome photographs from his Apparition and snow+concrete series (2009 and 2012 respectively), the gallery will also show the artist’s video work white cube / white wall (2004). Taking place between 7 October and 10 November, this will be Biermann’s first solo exhibition at Galerie du Monde, and is the second of the gallery’s GDM Projects, an initiative launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its opening in Hong Kong. 2 - 30 Jun 2016 Galerie du Monde is delighted to announce Mo Xiang, a solo exhibition by Chinese ink artist Li Hao, taking place from 2 – 30 June 2016. Following a series of successful joint and solo exhibitions at Galerie du Monde over the last three years, this solo exhibition will showcase Li Hao’s talent as a contemporary ink artist with completely 17 new works to be internationally premiered at this exhibition. The works further demonstrate the artist’s move from figurative painting to conceptual ink art and abstract imagery. In addition, the artist’s practice has been affected by his relocation to Dusseldorf, Germany in 2015 where he has been inspired by the change in his personal environment and circumstance. Fung Ming Chip - SHU-FA SUTRA
11 Nov - 31 Dec 2015 Galerie du Monde is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of work by Chinese artist Fung Ming Chip, which runs from 11 November – 31 December 2015. The primary focus of this exhibition will be Fung Ming Chip’s calligraphy which he has been practicing since 1976. In addition, the artist’s extensive collection of hand-carved seals will also be displayed, each one a unique art work. 25 new calligraphy works created by the artist are brought together in this exhibition, showcasing his redefinition of Chinese calligraphy as a contemporary art form, while still embracing its traditional elements.
