Adia Millett's public artwork Wisdom of the Wind is on view at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
"Wisdom of the Wind" is a newly completed public artwork by Adia Millett, commissioned for Temescal Hall at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. Begun in early 2024, the large-scale glass-tile mosaic was produced with the support of Mayer of Munich, a historic glass and mosaic studio that partners with artists on mosaic and stained-glass works.
Installed on the façade of the hospital's new Temescal Hall, Wisdom of the Wind sets luminous chromatic geometries into motion, tracing wind as rhythm and passage. Through color and light, the work draws on Oakland's distinctive cultural landscape—its histories, ancestral lineages, and everyday celebrations—while holding space for community, joy, play, transition, and hope. Oriented toward children as its primary audience, the mosaic frames the façade as a public threshold: a site of care, hope, and possibility.
