Richmond Art Gallery presents Lam Tung Pang’s first solo exhibition in Canada, Out of This World. This immersive, site-specific installation brings together drawings, sculpture, video, slides, and projections to evoke Canadian landscapes, domestic interiors, and outer space. Developed after Lam relocated from Hong Kong to Richmond three and a half years ago, the exhibition reflects on shifting identity, belonging, and displacement as his sense of self changes between places. It foregrounds the migrant’s feelings of alienation and vulnerability, while embracing play and imagination. Using projectors and lamps sourced from Richmond residents on Facebook Marketplace, Lam builds a home-like interior animated by flickering light and shifting shadows. Light anchors the exhibition as he explores how analogue and digital sources shape feelings of belonging and displacement. The installation also evokes the cosmos through a hand-drawn astronaut drifting in space, a recurring motif reflecting the artist’s curiosity about the unknown.
