Ngô Thụy Miên: Niệm khúc cuối (The Last Verse), 1960s.

--

Translation:
Even through the storms of life, I will always walk with you
Even when the clouds come, even when the lightning strikes
Even when the wind blows, even on snow-covered roads
Even when the leaves fall
My love, no matter what, I will always love you
Lean on each other for peace and warmth
Find each other’s lips to swallow, swallow this sorrow
Hand in hand, with our imprisoned desires
When our hair turns gray, scars remain of our love
Gazing into your eyes, I long to say "I love you"
I long to be your lullaby, to lull you to sleep
To bring you through dreams, to walk you through life
Just once in this lifetime
I long to see you in my dreams, to hold you close to my heart
I long for one passionate night, to be like husband and wife
No matter who journeys with you to the end of this life
Even if you rip and tear apart this heart
Even if I blame fate for this life, it would still be too late
My love, no matter what, I will always love you

A song that led to the 10-year-long imprisonment of Nguyễn Văn Lộc. A blues singer in North Vietnam, Nguyễn was arrested in 1968 after singing the song publicly for what was considered a statement against the government.
