Venue: JC Cube, Tai Kwun, Hong Kong

As cities expand and transform, how do artists and architects translate the unseen systems and shifting dynamics of urban life into creative expressions? This edition of Tai Kwun Conversations features artists Zhang Ruyi, Gordon Cheung and architectural scholar Dr Ying Zhou, who will explore the aesthetics and human stories shaping our evolving cityscapes.

The conversation brings together two participating artists from the current exhibition Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe: Zhang Ruyi, known for her poetic approach to using found materials to speak about resilience in the face of urban transformation, and Gordon Cheung, who creates work that fuses real-world data with reflections on capitalism. They will be in conversation with Dr Ying Zhou, a scholar specialising in the role of cultural spaces in urbanism, gentrification and heritage conservation.

The speakers will shed light on the complex systems that shape contemporary life, from the hidden connections sustaining our cities to the spatial and emotional transformations they generate. Considering the city as both a site of memory and a field of power, they will explore how art and architecture can make visible the forces that define urban experience today.

The discussion will be moderated by Ying Kwok, Tai Kwun Senior Curator and co-curator of the exhibition series Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008. After the conversation, the audience will have the chance to engage in a Q&A session with the speakers.
