Burçak Bingöl’s Unit Terrenum Rosa is on view at Riverside Walk Gardens, London, as part of the Westminster City of Sculpture Programme, 2 September 2026 to 21 May 2027.
Originally commissioned as a site-aware project for Frieze Sculpture 2025, In the Shadows, curated by Fatoş Üstek in Regent’s Park, London, Unit Terrenum Rosa examines the intersection of nature, history, and geography. Cast as a one-cubic-metre block, it is formed from rammed earth using Cappadocia clay from Turkey and incorporates ceramic elements inspired by Regent’s Park, including pieces sourced from and made with its clay-rich soil. Referencing the park’s Rose Garden, the rose, a recurring motif in Turkish decorative arts, becomes a cross-cultural hinge. The work traces connections between earth and clay, nature and making, and the movement of materials and skills across regions, inviting reflection on how environments and borders are continually reshaped.
