Three works created by Tang Chang in 1967 are part of Giving Life, a group exhibition opening at Dib Bangkok on 26 September 2026.
Giving Life

Giving Life is the second exhibition at Dib Bangkok since it opened its doors in November 2026. Bringing together over 160 works by 33 Thai and international artists, the exhibition fosters a shared conversation around change, transformation, and the power of beginning anew.
It follows a formative period of the 1970s (B.E. 2513–2523), a pivotal moment for Thailand’s own art scene, and these works are juxtaposed so the links between them can emerge. The intention is a wider understanding of what contemporary art encompasses, and of the multiple paths it pursues simultaneously. Tang Chang (1934–1990), a pioneer of Thai modernism who shattered its conventions by fusing calligraphy, abstraction and poetry, was among the artists whose radical experiments helped redefine the possibilities of Thai art during the transformative era presented in Giving Life.
The three Untitled works, created in 1967, belonged to Tang Chang’s practice of repetitive, meditative mark-making as a means of attuning his heart and mind to the world. Using a brush to create minute, stippled strokes, Chang devised drawings composed of amorphous concentrations of light and shadow.
