Text in the Room, Deferred

“Text in the Room, Deferred” featured in TRENSSE

Text in the Room, Deferred is featured in "Contemporary Narratives: Six Asian Artists Respond to Reality Through Moving Image" by Jonathan T. in TRENSSE.

Curated by Wang Jing, the exhibition brings together six Asian artists: Cai Guo Jie, Liu Wei Wei, Weng Io Wong, Wu Lao Bai, Xu Tan, and Yuen Nga Chi. Through multiple mediums such as video, animation, installation, archives, and socially engaged practice, the exhibition examines how images can move beyond mere documentation to become working methods that enter local and historical sites, intervene in social structures, and foster public dialogue.

Reconstructing experience within “rooms” that are independent yet connected

The “text” in the exhibition title does not refer to wall labels or explanatory writing. Rather, it points to social languages that make experience intelligible, shareable, and open to discussion. Wang Jing has divided the exhibition space into six “rooms” that vary in size and are each self-contained yet sequentially connected. This layout allows each work to retain its own context while also generating a fluid dialogue with the others. The exhibited works all stem from the artists’ long-term ongoing projects. Instead of offering predetermined answers, the exhibition seeks to open up new ways of seeing and to spark public discussion between reality and narrative.
