Publication Launch "Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008"

Works by Tsang Kin-Wah highlighted in Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008, jointly published by Tai Kwun Contemporary and Asia Art Archive.

Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008 explores the trajectory of contemporary art in and around China following the 2008 Beijing Olympics, utilizing a set of guiding keywords to examine how structural transformations have altered the conditions for artistic practice while showcasing artists' responses to China's evolving role within the global landscape. The publication highlights local and regional viewpoints to enrich academic research and raise public awareness about China's art scene.

"Together, text, moving images, and site-specific installations form the core visual language in Tsang Kin-Wah's artistic practice. His works continually engage with philosophical questions, literary narratives, and religious metaphors, synthesizing elements drawn from film, music, and popular culture. Through a deliberate sense of narrative detachment, he opens up a critical scrutiny of contemporary society. The 2012 solo exhibition [Ecce Homo Trilogy] marked a pivotal shift in Tsang's practice, as spatiality began to play a central role in his work. He started transforming exhibition spaces into conceptual vessels to explore the notion that what we perceive as reality is in fact a fluid continuum shaped by competing perspectives and interpretations." — Veronica Wong (Curator - Learning & Engagement at Tai Kwun)
