No Soul For Sale Festival

Exhibition period: 14 - 16 May 2010

Venue: Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, London

For the first time a group of artists from Hong Kong present their art works in a project by Tate Modern. Hong Kong's participation includes Lam Tung Pang, Lee Kit, Leung Chi Wo, Cédric Maridet and Morgan Wong Wing Fat. "This project is a great push for the visibility of the Hong Kong art scene, and the result of Para Site Art Space increasing international network," said Para Site's Alvaro Rodriguez Fominaya.

The project under the title of Silent Impact reflects a paradox that is exemplified in Chinese by the words 'Harmony' and 'Deep-Rooted Conflict'. Through these concepts, art is positioned to explore various issues in our society, from city to environment and from history to language. These two notions interact in a way that creates new cultural, political and social meanings. These multiple densities and strategies are expressed through the architectural structure that hosts the exhibits. Made of plywood and Plexiglas, it is a display device that accommodates the conceptual and material needs of the exhibited projects.

Lam Tung Pang, Lee Kit and Morgan Wong Wing Fat present performance and installation-based works, whilst Cédric Maridet and Leung Chi Wo showcase sound and photography based works respectively. Lam Tung Pang conducts a three-day performance where the artist draws and subsequently erases the image of mountain from Hong Kong. Lee Kit has selected a performance based on his Nivea Cream Series. Leung Chi Wo researches on the connection between Hong Kong's Legislative Council and London's Buckingham Palace. Cédric Maridet reproduces Hong Kong's wet market soundscapes, whilst Morgan Wong Wing Fat addresses the fragility of the artist community in the social network.
