On the occasion of Michael Müller's Titanomachie, commissioned for the Museum Reinhard Ernst, the artist will be in conversation with curator Lea Schäfer for a presentation at the museum on 17 May; they will be joined by Rudolf Zwirner as a special guest, who will contextualize the painting during the presentation. The talk will be followed by a viewing in the exhibition space.

"Titanomachie" refers to a famous battle in Greek mythology: the revolt of the Olympian gods against the older Titans. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades triumphed over the Titans and established a new world order. The artist, however, refrains from depicting the dramatic turmoil of the battle. In his abstraction, this traditional theme of painting is not depicted, but made tangible. In the contrast between gestural planes and calm surfaces, in the interplay of detail and overview, a pictorial space opens up that oscillates between order and dissolution. The ancient narrative becomes the starting point for an artistic engagement with today’s world order: can we still form a picture of the world?
