Artist Adia Millett will be featured in the upcoming group exhibition "Portrait of an Unlikely Space", curated by Mickalene Thomas and Keely Orgeman, the show will highlight works by Adia Millett and seven other contemporary artists including paintings, sculptures, photographs and video installations. A new multigallery installation was designed specifically  for this exhibition, to reimagined domestic surroundings reminiscent of a moment in U.S. history. Featuring a selection of early American portraits of Black women, men, and children—ranging from miniatures and daguerreotypes to silhouettes on paper and engravings in books—hanging on walls, standing within cases, and resting atop furniture, the exhibition aims to foster dialogue between the past and present through artists’ lenses.

Adia’s piece “Capital Gain” (2011) will be shown during the exhibition. Through a window into this one-story assemblage, viewers can see miniature lighting inside the shed-like structure that balances confined space with flights of fantasy. Adia will also be participating in a panel at Yale University on 26 October 2023, please stay tuned for more details on the event.
