“Landscape of Consciousness” --

Through photography, video, and installation art, the work “Landscape of Consciousness” (2023) by Tang Kwong San and Yuen Nga Chi documents the duo's in-situ research in Wong Chuk Hang. They took photographs of the Staunton Creek Nullah (catchwater in Wong Chuk Hang) and the Aberdeen waters, discovering marine life hidden beneath the bustling city and a multitude of abandoned objects lying silently beneath the riverbed, revealing the long-standing relationship between the area and water. During the field investigation, the Ocean Park and Jumbo Floating Restaurant became the inspiration for the duo. Tang Kwong San explained that the charm of the two places lies in their subtle opposition: "One is the ocean moved onto land, and the other is land built on the ocean." The imagery of water not only connects the two "lands" but also connects every image and footage in their work, evoking memories of Wong Chuk Hang's water for the audience, thus reflecting the bustling urban development, reversal of relationships, and the changes of the times.
