Commentary by Julia White

The Asian Art Newspaper has published a commentary by Julia White on Hong Kong artist Wesley Tongson’s solo exhibition “Spiritual Mountains” at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA), curated by Julia White. It features iconic works by Tongson showcase his unique artistic languages, along with insights into the influence of the past Chinese painting masters whose works from the museum’s collection are paired with his, and elaborates on Tongson’s transcendence in ink painting through his life events.

About Julia White:

Julia White was a senior curator for Asian Art at the University of California Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive for 15 years. Her final exhibition at BAMPFA “Spiritual Mountains: The Art of Wesley Tongson”, presents a survey of work by the Hong Kong artist Wesley Tongson and his influences from historical Chinese painting.
