Galerie du Monde presents a curated showcase of 14 prominent artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, United States and Europe, featuring Gordon Cheung, Fong Chung-Ray, Kongkee, Lam Tung Pang, Cathy Lu, Adia Millett, Michael Müller, Tang Kwong San, Wesley Tongson (special presentation in the Kabinett sector), Tsang Kin-Wah, Wang Gongyi, Wu Chi-Tsung, Guanyu Xu and Zheng Chongbin.
This group of artists investigates and challenges the concept of identity in their work. Factors and conditions that an individual is born with, such as ethnic heritage, gender or one’s body, define one’s identity. However, people’s experiences can alter how they perceive the self and the others, and how we make sense of the world. These artists’ work exudes an ambiguity and with that comes thought provocation, inspiring viewers to question the sense of self.
Traversing between the media of painting, photography, film, animation and installation, the artists’ works are innovative with a myriad of images to form new practices that are often experimental in nature.
