Kongkee & Tang Chang

gdm at Art Basel Hong Kong 2026

gdm is thrilled to announce upcoming solo presentations by Kongkee and Tang Chang for the gallery's Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 Encounters and Kabinett sectors.

Art Basel Encounters – Kongkee

Acclaimed for his dynamic multimedia moving image works and distinctive illustration style, Kongkee transforms gdm’s Encounters presentation with an expansive, site-specific neon installation. The dual-faced work is an evolution of Kongkee’s 2022 neon artwork Taotie, in which the artist rekindles the tale of the legendary ‘Taotie’, a monster so consumed by its own greed that it continuously devoured humans until it ultimately exploded from overindulgence. Through Kongkee’s innovative use of neon, a material emblematic of contemporary advertising, he transforms this ancient myth into a striking critique of contemporary society. Taotie (2026 version) is presented in tandem with a second neon installation, PRICE VALUE, exhibited for the first time at Art Basel Hong Kong 2026; positioned on opposing walls, they speak to the contradiction between the real and the digital self in a landscape shaped by consumerism.

Art Basel Kabinett - Tang Chang

Tang Chang, the pioneering Sino-Thai artist, is celebrated for his bold experimentation and profound contributions to modern art in Southeast Asia. Known for his innovative calligraphic abstractions and deeply expressive works, Tang Chang bridged cultural traditions with avant-garde practices, creating a unique visual language that challenged conventions and expanded the possibilities of painting and drawing. gdm's Kabinett will present a comprehensive journey through the different stages of his career. This will be the first presentation of Tang Chang’s works in Hong Kong since his showcase at Para Site in 2015, and solo exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in 2023.
