Alison Nguyen

Chengdu Biennale

Alison Nguyen's "Prosthetic Memory" to be featured at the 2026 Chengdu Biennale from 8 February to 23 August 2026.

gdm is excited to announce Alison Nguyen's participation in the 2026 Chengdu Biennale. The work first debuted at Art Basel Hong Kong Encounters in March 2025, and was later exhibited at gdm Taipei in May 2025 - the artist's first major solo exhibition in Asia. The immersive installation brings together two bodies of work exploring the complex relationship between media, the politics of cultural memory, and individual histories shaped by and resistant to assimilation.

Alison Nguyen is a New York-based artist working across video, installation, sculpture, and performance. She received her M.F.A in Visual Art from Columbia University and her B.A. in Literary Arts from Brown University. Alison Nguyen’s practice combines the particulars of the personal with an exploration into broader forces of history, particularly those entwined with technology. Nguyen’s installations and sculptures are material counterparts to her moving image work which conflate distinctions between the virtual and the real.

Nguyen is a 2023-2024 Studio Artist at the Whitney Independent Study Program (New York, NY). Her most recent solo exhibition was presented in 2023 at MIT List Center for Visual Arts (Cambridge, MA). In December 2023, her first institutional solo screening, “history as hypnosis” was presented at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Alison Nguyen's solo exhibition "Perforation, Ellipse" is currently on view at the Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York, till 28 March, 2026. Concurrently, Nguyen presents the installation version of "Aisle 9" for the first time in Europe at the Kunsthal Mechelen, as part of the group exhibition "The Sunsets were Purple and Red and Yellow and on Fire".
