"Klappe zu, Affe tot" (Works from the Bergmeier Collection)
Venue: Kunstaele Berlin, Bülowstraße 90, 10783 Berlin, Germany
Exhibition Period: August 24 - October 8, 2019
The group exhibition "Klappe zu, Affe tot" presents selected works from the Sammlung Bergmeier Collection. The artists whose work will be on view include: Art & Language, Luis Camnitzer, Rolf-Gunter Dienst, Gotthard Graubner, Franka Hörnschemeyer, Channa Horwitz, Ian Kiar, Dieter Krieg, Vlado Martek, Henri Michaux, Michael Müller, Tony Orrico, Sunil Padwal, Günther Uecker, Geerten Verheus, Hajra Waheed , Ruth Wolf-Rehfeld, and Kim Yong-Ik.
The exhibition’s title “Klappe zu, Affe tot..“ is a German phrase with English translation “Cover Closed, Monkey Dead” -- a reference to the practice, once customary in circuses and carnivals, of using a monkey in a wooden cage or booth to attract visitors. If the monkey died, the cage remained covered and the performance was canceled.
