Artist statement:
I was looking for my mother’s trace, my father layered plaster onto my face.
The distance between my father and I was very closed. ‘Black in color, very heavy, but it heats up.’ I felt.
By tools, my father put plaster onto my face for which we did not have a touch.During which, however, he had told me his mould experience in a toy making factory in the past.

Tang Kwong San was born in 1992 in Dongguan, mainland China. Tang's creative practice hovers between video, installation, drawing, and photographs both old and new to create an environment that feels like home, in order to tell the scattered history of an individual, a family and a nation, indirectly revealing his thoughts about his own identity. The absence of a mother is at the core of his early work, elaborating on the theme: drifting in a foreign land, within a mother’s final moments.
