One of the most significant fruits of the East-West nexus has been innovation in the realm of contemporary abstraction. Eastern artists deconstruct the language of ink painting and plumb the practical depths of Western modernism into their works. Likewise, oriental philosophy and calligraphy have strongly influenced the works of American abstract expressionists and the European Art Informel movement. Covering multiple generations from the 1960s to the present, Galerie du Monde will feature works by Fong Chung-Ray, Michael Müller, Wesley Tongson, Juan Uslé and Wu Chi-Tsung in the first edition of Taipei Connections.

There will be an exclusive virtual tour via Zoom, to artist Wu Chi-Tsung’s studio with the fair's co-director Robin Peckham at 8pm on May 4.
