The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts will present a major exhibition of the father of Chinese contemporary ink art -- Liu Kuo-Sung, titled "To the Moon: Liu Kuo-Sung", to commemorate the 70th anniversary of his coming to Taiwan, echoing the precious courage and action of the first human Moon landing 50 years ago. Presenting a large volume of 62 works by the artist, and the works have been curated into three thematic sections: Abstract Wild-Cursive Script, Outer Space, and Modernity .

 

Spanning a period of 55 years from 1964 to the present, this exhibition is not only a representation of Liu’s artistic career, but also a historical retrospect to the art development of Taiwan. Liu Kuo-Sung seeks innovation in art forms, explores unlimited possibilities of materials, and imbues his art with contemporaneity and the sense of the times.

 

In addition, Harvard's Chinese Art Media Lab (CAMLab) will debut their film project "To the Moon" at the Kaoksuing Museum of Fine Arts. The film spans Liu’s childhood in wartime China in the 1930s to a momentous artistic breakthrough that coincided with the iconic Apollo moon landing.
