LIGHTZONE, 2020
Optical PMMA, Dichroic Film, Stainless Steel
1200 x 40 x 7.2 cm
Regardless of day or night, humans perceive the world through light. The site-specific sculpture LIGHTZONE is comprised of a dichroic acrylic sheet, zig-zagging to refract the daylight that flows through the lightwell above. By the material characteristics of the optical PMMA and dichroic film, viewers perceive different colors exclusive to their position in relationship to the work. Moving upwards through the building, the sculpture slowly changes from a blue-purple hue to a yellow-red. After sunset, LIGHTZONE is illuminated by kinetic lights, revealing dramatic shifts in light and shadow - a measure of the flow of perception that changes with time.

In tandem with the specially commissioned LIGHTZONE the exhibition also featured recent works by Kou, Microflow (2019) and White Line (2020). Through the poetic interplay of light, people, and the environment, "IN YOUR OWN TIME" explores individual perceptions of the environment in a technologically-driven social landscape where technology and perception compete.
