Roland Biermann

All The World Is A Stage Exhibited at CSI Project Space

Roland Biermann's sculpture All The World Is A Stage (2022) is included in Existing is Political, a group show curated by Micki LeMieux at CSI Project Space, Chicago.

Exhibition Period: 18 October - 22 November 2024

Address: 1912 N. Damen Avenue, Chicago, IL 60467

Existing is Political explores the notion that simply “being”—existing in one’s body, culture, gender, or identity—carries political weight and significance. In an era marked by a two-party system with sharply defined platforms, this exhibition examines how the principles "equality and justice for all" fit into contemporary society. By showcasing diverse voices and perspectives, Existing is Political aims to inspire dialogue and foster a deeper understanding of existence as a political act in order to inspire action towards a genuinely inclusive society

Artist Statement:

First shown at Cape Cod Museum of Art, All The World Is A Stage (2022) is a small model made of plasma-cut steel. The sculpture shows the open front side of a house. On the floor of the house are two bullets, one grey, one blue, made of cast bronze. The work combines the notion of the home as a safe haven with the idea of constant public scrutiny as a minefield. The blue bullet is pointing upwards, like a missile that is about to be launched. The grey bullet is sitting on the floor, half-submerged, like a torpedo in water. The work reflects the fact that our daily lives have become totally transparent and that for this reason alone, our existence carries more political weight and significance than ever before. Video cameras in public spaces, drones and aerial sureveillance, our obsession with mobile phones and social media, all contribute to a situation where our moves and actions can be tracked 24/7.
