Alison Nguyen

Frieze Film 2024

Alison Nguyen's "my favorite software is being here" (2021) will be featured in Frieze Film's special program "All that Weaves the Universe: Of Quantum Entanglements" in Seoul this September.

Curated by Joowon Park (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) and Valentine Umansky (Tate Modern), and jointly presented with outdoor media arts festival EMAP (Ewha Media Art Presentation), Frieze Film takes place in Ewha Womans University’s historic gardens from 2-6 September 2024 to coincide with Frieze Seoul 2024, and the Gwangju and Busan Biennales. Audiences can also join remotely on frieze.com.

With the exponential rise of digital technologies, our intrinsic ties to the natural world have become increasingly mediated, distant and fragile. The space and boundaries between the human and nonhuman are being fundamentally reconfigured. In a time of absolute climate emergency, nurturing the things and beings with whom we share our ecosystems feels more pressing than ever. "All that Weaves the Universe: Of Quantum Entanglements" engages with this topic through a selection of time-based media works. While these looped videos offer varying perspectives, they persistently challenge colonial structures and processes, emphasizing how the interplay between capitalism and colonialism has driven economic inequality, cultural loss, environmental harm, and exploitative dependency, profoundly affecting our societies.
