Kongkee, The Tears (2023)
Galerie du Monde is delighted to share the visual artist Kongkee is recently featured in the Zolima CityMag. The article focuses on the latest immersive exhibition of Kongkee at Wrightwood 659, Chicago, entitled "Kongkee: Warring States Cyberpunk". Presenting the animation works of Kongkee through multi-screen videos, wall projections, neon installations, vibrant graphic works, narrative texts, and ancient Chinese objects, the exhibition tells the story of the legendary poet Qu Yuan, who lived during the Warring States Period (c. 481-221 BCE), as his soul journeys from the ancient Chu Kingdom to a retro-futuristic Asia where he is reborn as an android in a psychedelic cyberpunk landscape.
Kongkee Reimagines an Ancient Poet in Cyberpunk Hong Kong takes a deep dive into Kongkee's animation works, from "Dragon’s Delusion", a project he has been working on since 2013 to the current solo show at Wrightwood 659 and previous touring at Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
