About Kathmandu Triennale 2077:

Kathmandu Triennale 2077 takes places in Nepal, which focus on broadening to elevate the work of trans-Asian artists and the Nepali contemporary art scene.

2077 in the Nepali Bikram Sambat calendar was 2020 in the Gregorian calendar, the original year for this edition. Thus, the time of the Kathmandu Triennale 2077 has also become arbitrary and nonlinear; at once in the past and the future of 2077, and the present of 2022, mediating between systems of counting time, uneasy synchronicities, and struggles to escape and reclaim histories, often running afoul of each other.

The triennale is curated by Nepalese artists and cultural organizers Hit Man Gurung and Sheelasha Rajbhandari, working with director Sharareh Bajracharya and artistic director Cosmin Costinas. The exhibition runs for a month and includes work by more than one hundred artists representing about forty countries.

The event will take place across five different venues. These are the Patan Museum (occupying a former royal residence dating to the fourteenth century and now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site), Bahadur Shah Baithak (used centuries ago to house war elephants), the Nepal Art Council (one of the country’s largest arts venues), the Taragaon Museum (home to cultural objects and contemporary art), and the Siddhartha Art Gallery (featuring Nepali and international art).
