Fong Chung-Ray's 2018-6-28 has been acquired by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. As a key member of the Fifth Moon Group, Fong has explored the edge of Chinese ink art and abstraction for over six decades.
In the 1990s, Fong developed a technique that incorporates calligraphy using ancient religious texts, and reinvents Chinese paper mounting by reassembling sheets of dried and fragmented acrylic paint onto canvas, which create the impression of cracked, weathered walls. Time moves forward and backward on Fong's wall paintings. This visual layering of elements allows viewers to go back in time and catch glimpses of the "older" stratum of the wall’s surface. All of his work is highly expressive and full of movement – movement itself being an impossibility without the passage of time.
