Crystal Liu "the fog"
Artist's Reception: 6-8pm, January 9, 2020
Exhibition Period: January 10 - Feburary 29, 2020
Galerie du Monde is pleased to present an exhibition by artist Crystal Liu, titled “the fog”, on view from January 10 to February 29, 2020. The exhibition will showcase 13 new works on paper created with materials such as metallic pigments, custom-made marbleized paper, gouache and ink to construct landscapes as metaphors for the unseen and intangible forces that drive human beings from within.
Crystal Liu started the series with a color palette inspired by mother of pearl and pairs it with multiple clusters of opaque greyscale dots that build up and manifest the protagonist: the fog. At times, the fog appears thick, impenetrable and never-ending. Yet at others, it passes through swiftly, like an uninvited guest. The fog both obscures and reveals parts of the landscape where camellia flowers are found floating peacefully on the waters with the shimmering stars huddling together near the mountains and braving the crashing waves. Together with other characters such as birch trees, weeping willows, the stars and the moon, they depict tales of familial love, memory and hope.
“We are delighted to host Crystal’s second solo exhibition in Hong Kong, bringing her beautiful works to her parents’ hometown again. Crystal is very good at using a variety of materials to create delicate works with a strong personal style that are visually and emotionally compelling.”
– Fred Scholle, Founder and Chairman of Galerie du Monde
